This Week’s Backstage Country Host: Craig Morgan
Calling all country music fans! For the week of March 17-21, Elaina Smith of Backstage Country will have Craig Morgan as a co-host! Tune in all week to hear more about the stories behind his music, making a music video and of course, good country music.
The Making of Craig Morgan’s “Bonfire” Music Video
Smith told Morgan that “Bonfire” has always been one of her favorite music videos. She asked about the process behind the music and the logistics of performing it live for the first time in front of unsuspecting audiences.
Morgan laughed and admitted, “It was the truth! We did it without them knowing! It was great until we busted into the board meeting.” He chuckled adding, “And in that one place, those people were a little, I think initially they were upset. They were trying to have a real meeting, and we interrupted it.”
He continued, “When we went in the restaurant, that was pretty cool. It was a lot of fun. But I’ll be honest, when we wrote this song, it was one of those songs you thought, ‘Ah, we’ll just write it just for the heck of it.’ Kind of like when I heard Toby talk about ‘Red Solo Cup’—they were just being funny, you know? And it turned into this huge hit for us. So, you just never know.”
The “Evel Knievel” Outfit
Smith and Morgan also discussed the music video for his song “Little Bit of Life.” Morgan told Smith that while he didn’t write the song, when he first heard it, everything in it resonated with him. He noted that he is one of the people that he sings about and said, “I live that lifestyle. All of those things in that song were real.” He also shared that the line “a little bit of hound dog” in the song always stood out to him: “We’re not talking about an actual dog. We were talking about Elvis’ song.”
Morgan laughed and added, “When I was dressed up in the video, and I was jumping the motorcycle, that was not an Evel Knievel outfit. It was supposed to be an Elvis Presley, but no one got it. Everyone thought I was Evel Knievel because I was on the motorcycle.”
Smith quipped, “Well, that solves a decades-long mystery!”
Don’t miss out on the fun! Tune in to Backstage Country from March 17-21 with Craig Morgan. Get the inside scoop on his iconic songs, behind-the-scenes stories, and more.
