Dustin Lynch: The Man, The Music, The 10-Year Town Journey
Dustin Lynch revealed some interesting facts to Backstage Country’s Kelly Ford! He loves listening to music in his car, especially if it’s a song he’s working on like “Mind Reader,” why Thomas Rhett’s father is one of his heroes and his Nashville experience so far.
Career Changing Song
Lynch agreed with Ford when she said “Small Town Boy” is a career-changer song for him. “Yes, it definitely was. And a great story behind how this song came to me. The day that I heard it, I opened up an email from a publisher in town and it had two songs in it. “Small Town Boy,” [was] one of them.”
He listened to the song and immediately liked it. However, the email was two weeks old, and he was certain somebody else recorded it already. When he found out it was still available, he jumped at the chance. “I did not sleep until we got to go in and officially record that song. I was just always passionate about it. I had a good feeling about it.”
Dustin Lynch’s Friendship with Thomas Rhett
Lynch shared how he knew Thomas Rhett even before both became country crooners. “His dad [Rhett Atkins] is one of my heroes and he took me under his wing pretty early on before I had anything going on. He started riding with me and sending me songs and believing in what I was doing.” He added, “He would come join us to come eat lunch. And hey, that’s funny. My gosh. But yeah, I was so fortunate to have them believe in me.”
10-Year Town Journey
Ford mentioned the saying “Nashville is a 10-year town” but Lynch, who released his first album twelve years ago made it past the mark. How was his experience so far? Lynch said, “I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I mean, there were times when I was like, ‘Man, I wish this were quicker.’ But I jumped in headfirst not knowing anybody or having anybody hold my hand.”
He added, “I just knew that I love songs, songwriting and what performing in front of people made me feel as a person. The anticipation of getting on stage and the butterflies and the nerves, but also just the joy that it brought me and the smiles that were on their faces as they watched us.”
