This Week’s Backstage Country Host: Dustin Lynch
Dustin Lynch, the country music singer behind hits like “Cowboys and Angels” and “Chevrolet,” is this week’s Backstage Country host! He’ll be sharing the inspirations behind his songs, which song made him nervous about recording, how to make a song memorable and he even told which of his songs is his mother’s favorite.
Dustin Lynch’s Mom’s Favorite Song
Lynch admitted that when writing “Good Girl,” they hesitated to settle on that title. “We kind of had this musical idea going and we were scared to write the title which was ‘Good Girl’ because Carrie Underwood had a song called ‘Good Girl.’ We did a simple demo of it, and I swear to you, that night we were on the ride home to Nashville, we probably played it 30 times in a row. We just knew.” He added, “It’s my mom’s favorite song I’ve ever written and recorded. And so, I always dedicate it to her every night.”
“Seein’ Red”
He talked about recording “Seein’ Red,” a single from his third album, Current Mood. “I was a little bit nervous to record ‘Seein’ Red’ and put it out because it is pretty rocking, but it was a great way to kick off some energy on that album. It was a tough decision because we had ‘Small Town Boy’ sitting there on that record too, and we knew we wanted to put it out.”
He also shared how they needed to throw every instrument and clothing used and worn in the video shoot. “We had this red chalk powder that we use for the shoot. And once we shot it, the video set was ruined. So, it was a lot of pressure. We had to get that right. All the bad dudes had to be in the right spots. And we got it right in the first shot, thank God.”
Making a Song Memorable
While talking about “Ridin’ Roads,” a single from his fourth album, Tullahoma, Ford asked Lynch about the distinctive echo at the beginning of the song. “That was my producer Zach’s idea for sure. We’re always trying to ‘How do you make a song memorable?’ It’s like a signature lyric on a guitar or steel guitar or a drum fill at the top of a song. And that echo that we came up with, that’s something that hadn’t been done yet that we could remember. So that’s kind of what made that song instantly identifiable.”
Dustin Lynch’s time behind Backstage Country’s mic will give listeners a glimpse of what it’s like to be in the music industry for more than a decade. Be sure to tune in to catch more of his conservation with Kelly Ford and hear the latest country songs!
