Carly Pearce is this week’s host of Backstage Country and we have a lot to celebrate. The Grammy, CMA and ACM Award-winning singer-songwriter released her fourth studio album, hummingbird, on Friday.

Pearce says her new 14-song collection encapsulates her “true love of country music.” Hummingbird follows her 2021 album, 29: Written In Stone, featuring “Next Girl,” “Never Wanted To Be That Girl,” and her fourth career No. 1 hit, “What He Didn’t Do.”
“When you hear this album — Wherever you are on your journey, I hope it shows you that pain can be a lesson that shows you just how strong you are and what you truly deserve. That we can all find the ‘hummingbird’ in the midst of whatever we’re going through,” Pearce posted on Instagram.
Not only does Pearce share pieces of her personal journey throughout the album, she continues to deliver on the signature sound we’ve all come to know and love. It’s country music to the core between the lyrics, stories, and connecting with her fans one song at a time.
“‘My Place’ is probably my favorite song on the album. It’s the most personal. I wrote this song after having a dream that the relationship that I was in was ending. And I think that we can all relate to the idea that social media makes it really easy to see exactly what your exes are doing all the time, and the song kind of takes you through my personal journey of realizing that it hurts to see people move on, but it’s also not your place to have ownership in that relationship anymore,” Pearce told Backstage Country.
Backstage Country: Where To Listen
Over the weekend, Pearce performed in Nashville during CMA Fest on the Nissan Stadium main stage. Her six-song set included the fan-favorite “We Don’t Fight Anymore,” featuring Chris Stapleton, and the newly released “Truck On Fire.”
Earlier this month, Pearce posted to social media asking her fans to give her a “little bit of grace” as she navigates through her health journey. The 34-year-old wanted to continue to be “transparent and honest” with her fans revealing she has pericarditis, which is a heart issue.
Pearce is currently out on the road as direct support for Tim McGraw’s 2024 Standing Room Only Tour. She will also make an appearance at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville on June 18.
Top 20 Female Country Singers Of All Time
Country music has a long and proud history of women who have made a difference in the genre. In 2024, country music is ruled by one female, particularly the CMA 2023 Entertainer of the Year, Lainey Wilson.
Wilson had a night that she will never forget at the 57th Annual CMA Awards In November (2023).
When she came backstage, I asked Lainey about meeting and spending some quality time with the 1978 CMA Entertainer of The Year, Dolly Parton. The two got together at Dollywood a week before the CMA Awards. She told me, “Actually, when I went to Dollywood, and I hung out with her a little bit, I told her… I said the CMAs are around the corner. She said, ‘I’ve won one a time or two.’ I mean, Dolly, she’s it. She’s the one that I look to when I think about how to go about this business. She’s never been scared to step outside the lines, to step outside the box. But at the same time, she’s completely true to herself and true to her story.” Indeed, on Lainey’s major label debut, 2021’s Sayin’ What I’m Thinkin’, she had a song called “WWDD.” That stands for “What would Dolly do?”
She added, “I asked for some advice on how do you keep on going. And she said, ‘You’ve got to keep going, and whatever you are affiliated with, make sure that you’re passionate about it because at the end of the day If you’re not, people can read right through that.'”
Wilson concluded with a smile. “It’s incredible, you know how everybody says don’t meet your hero? Well, I’ll tell you what, that’s not Dolly Parton. She’s someone I think everybody needs to strive to be.” And clearly, she’s someone whom anyone would be lucky to meet.
In celebrating the success that Lainey is having in country music right now, we take a look at who we believe is the Top 20 female country singers of all time.
