Dylan Scott’s Songs: An Ode to His Hometown and Sharing a Hit Song with a Friend
When you listen to a Dylan Scott track, you’re not just hearing catchy tunes or radio-friendly hits. You’re experiencing the heart and soul of a man who pours his life into his music. As Elaina Smith’s co-host from March 24-28, Scott will be sharing with the listeners the inspiration and funny anecdotes behind his songs.
“This Town’s Been Too Good to Us”
Smith asked Scott about his latest hit, “This Town’s Been Too Good to Us,” and what it felt like to have another hit song. Scott shared that while he’s written many love songs, largely inspired by his wife, he didn’t want to box himself into the “love song corner.” He wanted to create music that showed the rest of his life.
The track, according to Scott, is inspired by his hometown of Bastrop, Louisiana, explaining that he wanted to write an “ode” to the place that shaped him. He added that the song is a “big thank you to the people there because that’s who shaped me as who I am as a person and an artist.”
He went on to say that the song is, “About my town, the people in it, how I grew up, and I feel like everybody can say the same thing about where they’re from—whether it’s a city or whether it’s not even a town, just a middle-of-nowhere map dot. Everybody’s appreciative of where they grew up and how they grew up, and so this is my story and my thank you to my hometown.”
“Boys Back Home”
“Boys Back Home” is a collaboration between two Dylans—Dylan Scott and Dylan Marlowe. Smith asked Scott about his experience working with Marlowe, and Scott couldn’t help but chuckle, saying, “Dylan Marlowe’s a stud!”
He went on to add, “He’s a superstar, one of my best friends, and I took him out on his first tour a couple years ago, and we just became really close friends, and he played me this song, ‘Boys Back Home,’ and I said, ‘Dude, there’s something about that song, and I don’t know what you plan on doing with it, but I want to be a part of it, whatever you do.’”
Scott shared that Marlowe agreed right away. The next week, Scott went to record his vocals, not really knowing where the song was headed. “Fast forward a couple years later, it’s his first number one, another number one for myself, and to share it with your buddy who you believe in means a lot to me,” said Scott.
Scott also admitted that he kept telling himself that if he found someone he truly believed in, he’d do everything he could to be a part of their journey—just like he did with Marlowe. When Smith asked if their relationship changed after their song hit number one, Scott replied, “We already had such a great relationship, but you throw a number one in there—his first number one—and you can never take that away, right? We’ll always get to share that.”
