Dylan Scott Keeps It Real About the Life of a Country Music Artist
Dylan Scott, known for hits like “My Girl” and “Nothing to Do Town,” is Elaina Smith’s Backstage Country co-host for a week! He’ll be taking over the airwaves, playing the latest country music hits, and of course, giving us an insight into the life of a country music artist.
Experiencing Burnout or Writer’s Block
Smith got curious about whether Scott had ever experienced burnout or writer’s block and how he deals with it. Scott admitted that he does face writer’s block from time to time. He explained that there are moments when he feels he just needs to step away from writing. Interestingly, it’s during these breaks that “the best song comes about” or an idea strikes him, or someone sends him a song.
He admitted, “I love finding outside music; there’s so many great songwriters in this town. Thankfully, now where we are in my career and the hits we’ve had, you know, people are sending us the A-list songs, you know, so that’s always cool. I mean, just this week, I’ve had a couple sent to me, I’m just like, ‘These are awesome, can’t wait to record them.’”
There’s No Slowing Down Dylan Scott
Since Scott mentioned that he never really turns his brain off, Smith joked that she could imagine him sleeping, only to wake up in the middle of the night with a sudden burst of inspiration. Scott laughed and confirmed that had happened. He recalled a time when he woke up in the middle of the night thinking, “This is going to be one of the biggest songs of my life when I finally record it.”
The “This Town’s Been Too Good to Us” singer admitted that he’s just waiting on the right time to release the song that was inspired by what his late mother used to tell him.
“My mom passed away a couple years ago and she would always tell me, slow down, slow down, because I don’t slow down,” said Scott. “I’m constantly doing something. Since I was a kid, it’s been this way. Slow down, just take a break, take a day, sit on the couch.”
He added, “I can’t do that. So, I woke up in the middle of the night and instantly it came to my mind, ‘Slow Down.’ I grabbed my phone, and I just wrote ‘slow down.’ Fast forward a few months later, I wrote the song.”
