LOCASH to Co-Host ‘Backstage Country’ and Share Their Thoughts on TikTok
Country music duo LOCASH is taking the reins as Elaina Smith’s co-hosts on Backstage Country, bringing their signature energy and humor to the show. Known for their hit songs like “I Know Somebody” and “One Big Country Song,” Chris Lucas and Preston Brust will take the listeners behind the scenes of what it’s like to be a country music artist, and how they really feel about the popular social media platform, TikTok.
What Does LOCASH Think About TikTok?
Elaina asked LOCASH what they think about TikTok, and if they are enjoying this social media platform. Preston acknowledged that it’s a “great tool” but that the word “algorithm” drives him “nuts,” and added, “Are you in the algorithm? Are you out of it? I don’t know.” Chris admitted that he also liked it, saying, “I think there’s some funny [videos], and it shows you a lot of funny people that are out there and a lot of common sense is gone.”
Preston shared an anecdote of when they did a USO tour and said, “We went out and did a couple of them, overseas. We were at Andrews Air Force Base on Air Force 2, getting ready to take off, and they were like, ‘Everybody pull your phones out and delete TikTok off of your phone.’”
Elaina asked if they had deleted the app. Preston replied that it happened years ago and that he didn’t even have it on his phone. But, he added, everyone had to do it, noting, “There were security issues. That’s what that was all about. That’s scary.” He added, “I don’t want nothing to do with that. So, yeah. We have our media guy do it.”
Elaina pointed out that now that they have their own label, TikTok is something they have to pay attention to, especially when they bring on new artists. So, what will be their advice to them about TikTok?
Chris admitted he wanted to see how things will go first with TikTok, referencing the TikTok ban, saying, “I wanna see where it goes first, see in the next couple, probably two weeks left before we decide what they’re gonna do with it. I think if they’d let America buy it, which I don’t think they’re going to, if not, I think we have so many brilliant people here, we can put together something.”
Preston added that with new artists connecting with someone and resonating in some way, even if “they’ve got 1.2 million or 12 million likes, I don’t care about that. I just want to see if it’s real.” He also added that not only TikTok, but also other social media platforms help them “look at somebody real quick” and “get a good feel for who they are.”
