Scotty McCreery Talks New Heartbreak Single, ‘Cab In A Solo’
It’s been a fantastic yet very busy year for Scotty McCreery. On top of recently being invited to become the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry, the country singer also has a new single out, “Cab In A Solo.”
The “Cab In A Solo” singer joins us this week as the guest host on Shawn Parr’s Backstage Country and together, McCreery and Shawn Parr take a deep dive in the new songs. McCreery co-wrote the heartbreak song alongside Brent Anderson and Frank Rogers.
“I love this song. I loved writing the song, I love singing the song. It kind of takes me back to that music that I grew up on, you know, in the nineties and even listening to some stuff before the nineties. It’s just a storytelling song. And this guy in the song is trying to win his girl back and he’s thinking, man, some roses and some fine wines got to do the trick, right? Its got to do the trick and drives over to her place only to find out he’s just a little too late. It didn’t quite work out. So what’s he going to do? Is he going to bring the wine back to the store? Heck no. He’s going to drink that wine. So that’s what the song is all about,” McCreery told Parr.
McCreery didn’t just pick your “everyday bottle of red” to feature in the song, he chose Silver Oak 1998 which he says is a wine that’s most definitely picked out for a special occasion.
“He’s really trying to win her heart back and Silver Oak is a great, fantastic wine. If he was trying to make a statement, he was going to make a statement with that bottle of wine,” McCreery says of the song.
The lyrics include, “Sitting here, I can’t believe what I just saw / couple shadows kissing on her bedroom wall/ it’s looking like my plan didn’t work out at all / heartbreak turned into broke up / so now I’m finding out how a heartbreak taste / with a Silver oak, 1998 / drinking cab in a solo/solo in the cab of my truck.”
