The hummingbird album includes Pearce’s collaboration with Chris Stapleton, “We Don’t Fight Anymore,” as well as “Country Music Made Me Do It,” and “Truck On Fire.” While hosting Backstage Country this week, the singer-songwriter spoke on her favorite hummingbird track.
“‘My Place’ is probably my favorite song on the album. It’s the most personal. I wrote this song after having a dream that the relationship that I was in was ending. And I think that we can all relate to the idea that social media makes it really easy to see exactly what your exes are doing all the time, and the song kind of takes you through my personal journey of realizing that it hurts to see people move on, but it’s also not your place to have ownership in that relationship anymore,” Pearce told Backstage Country.
She sings, “It ain’t my place / to question if there’s someone fillin’ my space / ain’t my business tryna picture four by sixes with her in ’em / if she does things that I didn’t / wonderin’ what the hell I’m wonderin’ for / it ain’t my place, ’cause it ain’t my place anymore.”
When it came down to the naming of the project, Pearce admits that she never intended for the new album to be called Hummingbird. However, after someone on her team shared the meaning behind the bird itself with her, it was the perfect fit.
For some, Pearce says it can be a sense of healing and “showing the healing process,” but the hummingbird is also a symbol of good luck. The singer-songwriter has even gone as far as putting “some luck” on her arm, for her latest tattoo.
Fans can catch Pearce out on the road this summer as direct support for Tim McGraw’s 2024 Standing Room Only Tour. She will also make an appearance at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville on June 18.
