While the new 14-song collection encapsulates her “true love of country music,” Pearce admits that there’s one song in particular that is “the moment” of the album, and that’s “Oklahoma.” She co-wrote the hummingbird track alongside Nicolle Galyon, Shane McAnally, and Jordan Reynolds.
“I grew up loving ’90s country and especially female ’90s country, and I loved moments. And what I mean by moments, I feel like ‘Cowboy Take Me Away’ is a moment, I feel like ‘A Little Past Little Rock’ is a moment,” Pearce told Backstage Country.
She continued, “This song, for me, feels like the moment of the album. It feels cinematic. It feels reminiscent of those ladies back in the ’90s, and I think that this is a sentiment that a lot of us can relate to. You may understand that a relationship has ended and it’s for the best, but maybe you’re not okay about it.”
Pearce sings, “Don’t know what’s in the distance, but looking back is wasted time / I don’t know where the hell you are / I passed a hundred bars and seen your face in every car along the way / I might be in Oklahoma / but I’m not ok.”
It has been almost three years since Pearce has put a record out into the world. The 34-year-old addressed her fans on social media just hours before the release admitting there was a lot of “life lived” during that time while she also was on her “healing journey.”
The singer-songwriter is currently out on the road as a supporting act on Tim McGaw’s 2024 Standing Room Only Tour. Fans can also catch her performing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday night.
