Jordan Davis’ ‘Buy Dirt’ Is All Thanks To His Grandpa
Jordan Davis‘ “Buy Dirt” became a phenomenon for country music fans following its release in 2021. The country singer took the advice he received from his grandpa and crafted one of the biggest hits to date while also reminding us of what life is all about.

He co-wrote the track alongside his brother, Jacob Davis, and brothers Josh and Matt Jenkins a few months into the global pandemic the year before its release into the world. Davis’ “Buy Dirt” became his fourth No. 1 on country radio and is included on his sophomore album, Bluebird Days, while also featuring country superstar, Luke Bryan.
“It’s advice from my grandpa,” Davis told Kelly Ford. “He basically said, it doesn’t have to be 200 acres. It can be two acres, you know, get your piece of dirt, put your house on it, and fill it with people you love, people and the things you love. It’s really that simple.”
He continued, “Even myself, you know, I’ve always been looking to try to find something, to disconnect and kind of get outside of town. Let my kids run around in the woods and ride four-wheelers and stuff. This song allowed me to do that.“
While Davis recalls there being some confusion on the title of the track, for some, it was quite clear what they had to do. He revealed to Ford on Backstage Country that a fan from Florida even thanked him for the song, which finally convinced him to “Buy Dirt” of his own.
“That’s the coolest thing I’ve ever heard,” Davis said of the fan’s experience listening to “Buy Dirt.”
Davis is nominated in three categories at the upcoming ACM Awards on May 16, including Single of the Year, Song of the Year, and Visual Media of the Year for “Next Thing You Know.” He is currently out on the road for his headlining ‘Damn Good Time World Tour’ with special guests Mitchell Tenpenny and Ashley Cooke.
