Singer-Songwriter Darryl Worley Feeling ‘Thankful’ After Barn Fire

Darryl Worley suffered a devastating loss this week during the south’s historic snowstorm events. The country music singer-songwriter shared some heartbreaking news with his followers on Wednesday (1/17) by posting a photo of a barn fire at his Savannah, Tennessee home.

Worley posted the following statement to his Facebook page:

“I don’t think I will get this sight out of my mind for a long time! I’ve seen other people go through things like this and I truly hurt for them. You just don’t really know and understand until it happens to you. It’s the worst feeling! In that moment that Kimberly captured I was overwhelmed with the feelings of helplessness, sadness, confusion, and grief! There were so many things in that barn that meant so much to us and so many great memories! But I woke up this morning feeling thankful for all the love and support from so many, for the fact that all our animals escaped, for my family being safe, and for God’s love and protection! Please continue keep us in your prayers and thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the posts, text, calls, and prayers! We will rebuild our barn and move on with God’s help!”

The 59-year-old known for his No. 1 hits including “I Miss My Friend,” “Awful, Beautiful Life,” and “Have You Forgotten?” had recently wrapped up his string of dates for the ‘Darryl Worley & Friends: Home for the Holidays Dinner Show’ at the Christmas at Gaylord Opryland in Nashville.

Before the devastating barn fire took place, Worley was fortunate enough to have “an amazing family gathering to celebrate together” since he and his loved ones did not get to do their “traditional family meal” for either Thanksgiving or Christmas in 2023.

Four Cold, Cold, Country Songs

"Colder Weather" (2010)
Zac gets right to the point in this song about delaying a love match because of “colder weather.” In the chorus, the lyrics include: “He said, ‘I wanna see you again / But I’m stuck in colder weather / Maybe tomorrow will be better / Can I call you then?’ / She said, ‘You’re a ramblin’ man’ / / And you ain’t ever gonna change / You got a gypsy soul to blame / And you were born for leavin.'”
"Cold As You" Taylor Swift (2006)
Taylor released this song as an album cut on her debut album. The chorus includes the lyrics: “Oh, what a shame / What a rainy ending given to a perfect day / Just walk away / Ain’t no use defending words that you will never say / And now that I’m sittin’ here thinkin’ it through / I’ve never been anywhere cold as you.”
"Cold As You" Luke Combs (2021)
Luke co-wrote this sad song and produced the track. He uploaded an acoustic version of the song to his social media in 2020. The lyrics of the chorus are: “They got ‘Whiskey River’ on a jukebox / A honky tonk sawdust dance floor / A neon, five o’clock, broke clock / And plenty damn many when you want one more / Of this broke heart fool on an old bar stool / Drinkin’ beer almost as cold as you.”

The music video for the cold song showcases a man through a night after he escapes his ex-girlfriend and her new lover via a secret door in the back of a jukebox in a nostalgic diner. Many of the video’s cast of characters have appeared as characters in other Luke Combs videos.

Chris’ “Cold’ won at the 64th GRAMMY Awards for Best Country Song. He performed the song on both the GRAMMY Awards that year and the CMA Awards in 2021. The icey chorus includes the lyrics: “Oh, why you got to be so cold? / Why you got to go and cut me like a knife / And put our love on ice? / Oh, girl, you know you left this hole / Right here in the middle of my soul / Oh, why you got to be so cold?”
