Jelly Roll Brings His Mom Backstage At A Show

Jelly Roll stepped up his “sweet guy” status even higher this week when he posted a few photos of himself with his mom when she joined him for a show recently in Lexington, Kentucky, where her boy sold-out the Rupp Arena. In a post on Instagram, Jelly shared photos of pushing his mom around in her wheelchair backstage at the show with friends.

He captioned the post to his almost two million followers, “One of the coolest experiences for me is when my mother makes it out for a show. I started writing songs because I saw how much she loved music and how much it helped her. I am grateful that she is able to see me perform at this level. She got to come see me sell out the legendary Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky- of course; she asked me to take her to Struggles dressing room to see him. She loves Struggle to death.”

Many of Jelly’s die-hard fan base reacted to his post with one commenting, “What an awesome & very thoughtful thing you do. I’m a mom & now you are 1 of my favorite people. I MUST find your music now!? I’m a mom that loves music & loves to move my hips.” Another fan wrote, “I love this so much! I just realized I can see the love you pour into YOUR PEOPLE! Straight from your spirit to that amazing heart, you share with the ones you love! Get it! Get it, momma roll!!!” One more fan said, “Your smile in that last picture says everything. I just adore you. Your music is incredible. But YOU are a priceless blessing of a human. I hope I can meet you one day. Love you, dude.”

For those you do not know, Struggle Jennings is a Nashville area rapper. He is the grandson of instrumental rock guitarist Duane Eddy and country musician Jessi Colter, Waylon Jennings’s step-grandson, and Shooter Jennings’s nephew.

  • "Save Me" (solo version) (2020)

    Jelly first released this song in June of 2020. At the time, he said of the song’s video, “This one is a bit of a curveball for me. I don’t usually do these stripped-down acoustic videos, but writing this song made me feel something. I felt y’all needed some insight into the more vulnerable side of the music business.” The song was later re-recorded as a duet with Lainey Wilson.

  • "Son of A Sinner" (2022)

    This is Jelly Roll’s first single released to the country music format. It is also his first number-one song on country radio. The song is about Jelly Roll’s personal life as a traveling musician and his personal struggles with drug addiction. Jelly said that he was intoxicated while recording the vocal track.

  • "Need A Favor" (2022)

    Jelly’s second number-one song on country radio. It centers on a man on the verge of losing the love of his life and praying for God to do him a favor, admitting he does not deserve it, and hoping to repent for his past actions.

  • "Save Me" duet with Lainey Wilson (2023)

    An official remix of the song with Lainey Wilson was released on May 12, 2023, as the second single from Jelly’s album Whitsitt Chapel. Jelly and Lainey performed it together at the 58th Academy of Country Music Awards and later at the finale of season 21 of “American Idol.”

Nancy Brooks has been working in the country music industry for almost 30 years. She has interviewed pretty much any country star you can think of. In the late 1990s, she started working with Dolly Parton. And yes, Nancy reports that Parton is as sweet as you would think.
