Brothers Osborne: Their Song With Miranda Lambert

Brothers Osborne released their self-titled fourth studio album earlier this month, and several songs have risen to the top, like the duet with Miranda Lambert, “We Ain’t Good At Breaking Up.”

The song was written by the brothers, along with Jesse Frasure and Miranda. TJ told us about the day they wrote the song. “Miranda came in, and she was so fun to write with. It can be a little challenging to write with artists sometimes; you end up trying to write for each other, and you end up with a song typically for neither of you.”

TJ noted that this was not one of those times. He said, “In this instance, we knew we were writing for this project. We went in and definitely focused on this. Miranda was all for that. She took off her artist cap and put on her cap, and we were just really, really impressed with not only her writing ability but just the ease in how great she collaborates.”

Osborne admitted they had one more thing to ask her once the song was complete. He recalled, “When the song was finished for the day, and Miranda got up and started doing some ad-libs on the work tape demo that we had done, we knew that part of what makes this song special and unique from things we’ve done previously is that female vocal weeding its way through there. The track was really great, and we were like, ‘Miranda, please, you have to sing on it.’ She kindly obliged and put her vocal on it.”

TJ said of that special day Lambert came into the studio, “There’s always some amazing moments in the studio, but that was one of those amazing moments where you’re sitting there listening to it live, and we were just getting chills. Like, ‘Oh, this is really good already, and we aren’t even finished.'”

He added that he loves to see people’s reactions when they first hear the song. He hopes it will be a single, “Some people right off the bat hear it is Miranda. But some people can’t quite put their finger on it, and then once you tell them, it seems so obvious. She just has that quality to her voice, and she adds such a dreamy, beautiful texture to that song.”
