Jelly Roll Talks Success of ‘Need a Favor’
There are times when Jelly Roll still can’t believe his successes.
He joins Shawn Parr all week on Shawn Parr’s Backstage Country and talked about the follow up song to the hit, “Son of a Sinner”.
“I go out for Darius the other night at the Ryman Auditorium and I sing Son of a Sinner, and I’m not advertised to be there. It’s Darius and Friends and come out. People are going crazy. We sing Son of a Sinner together, half the room sitting, half the room standing. But it’s a vibe, everybody knows the song. And then I start to talk about how much I appreciate Darius bringing me and how it’s a great cause for the charity events and ever. And then I go, Well, let me play y’all a new one. And you know how Need A Favor comes straight in, so I hear one, two, three. I go, ‘I only’ and I watched that place lose its mind. I watched everybody stand up. I thought I seen a lady in a wheelchair stand up. It was special dude. Security guards turned around and faced the stage. And I was like, I thought, Son of a Sinner was a hit. Need a favor is going to be a hit like it just even in the Nissan Stadium at CMA Fest, it just felt different. Like you’ve seen Son of a Sinner and you could see the crowd loving it and then you see by the third hook of Need A Favor, the people in there who didn’t know who I was were believers, you know, and it’s just special man, and it’s so honest”.
What was a special night for Jelly Roll was also a special night for St. Jude. The Darius and Friends events helped raise over $560,000.
“Darius could have told me he needed me to come clean his Cadillac, and I would have showed up”, said Jelly Roll. “So it’s the fact that we got to help people and I got to hang out with Darius, it was a great night”.
You can hear both “Son of a Sinner” and “Need A Favor” on Jelly Roll’s new album Whitshitt Chapel. Jelly Roll wrote all 13 songs on the album which debuted at No.1 on the Billboard Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart, No. 2 on the Billboard Country Album chart, and Top 3 on the Billboard 200 all-genre chart with 90,000 album equivalents.
The 3x CMT Award winner is preparing to hit the road on his 44-date headlining Backroad Baptism Tour.
