“Rock And A Hard Place” also marks Zimmerman’s first Top 10 hit on Billboard’s all-genre Hot 100 chart.
The power ballad details the difficulties in a relationship and what motivates someone to rethink their bad habits.
Zimmerman always had a good feeling about his latest number one and he tells Shawn Parr how he found it.
“I always had a really good feeling about that song. When I heard it on Instagram for the first time, it was Heath Warren, one of the writers on the song, playing it acoustic on an acoustic guitar. But I just remember getting chills when I heard it for the first time. So I immediately called Heath and I was like, Hey man, I know we don’t know each other, but that song that you have, I really think it’s a big song and it could really help a lot of people. I just heard it on Instagram and I’m like almost in tears just listening to this song. And he was like, man, well, you can cut it if you want. I was like, Alright, I’ll cut it. So we got it. And I was like, All right, I’ll cut it. I think that’s a really good song. And then we got in the studio and we worked on the song for probably four to 4 to 5 months probably. We worked on it and worked on it. And yeah, just trying to get it to really feel like just the emotions of the lyrics because I really wanted to do a good job because Heath and the boys really worked on those lyrics and I didn’t want it to fall short, you know, and I wanted to make sure the music felt just as good as the lyrics did, and it took us a while to get there. But it’s a crazy ride because a lot of the times you think, man, am I going to write another good song? Am I going to have another hit? And then they just kind of like happen, you know, and like things just fall into place. So I’m very grateful for them boys. And letting me cut this song, it’s crazy”.
Zimmerman’s upcoming full-length debut album Religiously, The Album drops May 12. He is currently on Morgan Wallen’s 2023 One Night At A Time World Tour which kicks off on April 14 at American Family Field in Milwaukee, WI.
