Lainey Wilson had a full circle moment on Sunday (8/11) when she met Miley Cyrus for the first time and presented her with a special D23 award for her work on Hannah Montana.

Since I started interviewing Lainey in 2020, she's been talking about how she learned so much about being a performer from impersonating Miley Cyrus as Hannah Montanna in high school for kids birthday parties and such.

When I talked to Wilson in February, right after the GRAMMY Awards, I asked if she had met with Miley, who also won a GRAMMY that night.

Lainey told me at the time, "I didn't meet her officially. I was, like, front row for her performance. After I had won the GRAMMY, I was backstage for about an hour doing press, and I think we barely missed each other."

She's hopeful that they will meet face-to-face someday. She said, "We know a lot of the same people, and even when I was spending some time with Dolly Parton the other day, she was like, 'You remind me so much of Miley.'"

In an interview with Glamour earlier this year, Wilson said she's ready to work with Miley Cyrus, "At some point in time, me and Miley Cyrus have to work together."

The country star added of her Hannah Montana impersonating days, "I would do four or five birthday parties a weekend. Sometimes, I would open up as Lainey Wilson, and then I'd run backstage and change into my Hannah Montana wig and do my 15-song karaoke show."

The country superstar appeared at Disney's D23 event to perform a Hannah Montanna song and honor Miley face to face.

Lainey said before her performance of "Best Of Both Worlds," "I'm talking about at birthday parties, fairs, festivals, you name it — it was me, Lainey Wilson, opening up for me as Hannah Montana. You talk about the best of both worlds. You inspired me to believe in myself that I too could be an ordinary girl living in an extraordinary world."

She added, "So, on behalf of Hannah Montana fans everywhere, I'd like to dedicate this song to you. Y'all better get up!"

Wilson posted to her X along with photos of the two of them together, "I got the best of both worlds that's for sure. From performing as Hannah Montana on flatbed trailers at birthday parties to honoring the legend herself…now that right there is what ya call a full circle moment. @MileyCyrus you're such an inspiration. Thank you for letting me honor you. Still pinching myself ."about last night."

Nancy Brooks has been working in the country music industry for almost 30 years. She has interviewed pretty much any country star you can think of. In the late 1990s, she started working with Dolly Parton. And yes, Nancy reports that Parton is as sweet as you would think. She loves her life in country music and has been backstage at every CMA Awards show since the late 1990s. Many of her stories are from her one-on-one interviews. She was there at the beginning of the incredible careers of many music superstars today, including Taylor Swift, Shania Twain, and Blake Shelton, and has interviewed them multiple times throughout the years.
