Lainey Wilson Talks Acting on Hit Show ‘Yellowstone’
Lainey Wilson is one of country music’s brightest stars, and we’re lucky to have her all week hosting Shawn Parr’s Backstage Country. The newly reigned 2023 CMT Music Award winner for Female Video of the Year and Collaborative Video of the Year, discussed her time on Yellowstone with Parr.
Wilson plays Abby, an aspiring country singer and girlfriend to Ranch hand Ryan, played by Ian Bohen.
The songs Wilson sings on the show are her own and three have been featured.
The show’s producer and writer Taylor Sheridan created the character of Abby specifically for Wilson after seeing her perform. Wilson shared the story with Parr
“He called me and I walk out on the back porch. He gets like one sentence out of his mouth, and my dog, she’s a little French bulldog. Her name is Hippie. She takes off running towards the road. So I’m on the phone with Taylor Sheridan while Hippie is about to run in front of a car. And I like a tackle her in a ditch while he’s literally asking me if I want to be in the show. And he’s like, I want to create a character for you. He said, You wear your bell bottoms, sing your own songs, but go by a musician name Abby. And so I once I caught my breath after catching Hippie in the ditch, I said, Count me in”.
When asked if she will be appearing in anymore episodes, Wilson joked that they haven’t taken her to the train station just yet.
