Taylor Swift Announces New Album: ‘Tortured Poets Department’
As Taylor Swift won her 13th Grammy Sunday night (February 4), she let her fans in on a little “secret.” She said that she’s been keeping this secret for two years. Joking about folks maybe not knowing that 13 is her lucky number, Swift announced her new album, The Tortured Poets Department. During her acceptance speech, Swift declared she was going to post more details about her upcoming 11th studio album. She wrote on her social media accounts: “All’s fair in love and poetry… New album, THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT. Out April 19 [white heart emoji].” The album is available for pre-order now in digital and physical CD and vinyl copies. There is a bonus track titled “Manuscript,” according to Swift’s website.

In the first image, Swift is lying on a bed surrounded by a fluffy duvet and pillows. She is wearing a black set, with one of the straps resting on her arm as she clutches herself. Facing the camera but with her face hidden, the black and white photo certainly captures the “tortured poet” that Swift certainly is. The next image is of a hand-written description of the album. Swift writes:
“And so I enter into evidence
My tarnished coat of arms
My muses, acquired like bruises
My talismans and charms
The tick,
tick,
tick
of love bombs
My veins of pitch black ink.
All’s fair in love and poetry…

The Chairman
of the Tortured Souls Department.”

Swift’s Grammy night featured more mania, as she became the first artist to win Album of the Year for a fourth time for her Midnights album. She was also nominated for Song of the Year for her Midnights track “Anti-Hero.” Though she didn’t win, she had been nominated seven times, making her the most nominated songwriter ever.
