‘Freaky Friday 2’—Most Of The Cast Is Back
Jamie Lee Curtis called and manifested Freaky Friday 2! In her appearance in The View last October 2022, she shared what her concept for the sequel is. “So, then Lindsay gets to be the sexy grandma, who is still happy with Mark Harmon in all the ways you would be happy with Mark Harmon,” she added. “I would like to see Lindsay be the hot grandma, and I would like to see me try to deal with toddlers today. I wanna be a helicopter parent in today’s world, as an old lady.”
With the sequel officially set for release on August 8, 2025, the big question is: which members of the original cast are returning for Freakier Friday?
Freaky Friday 2 Cast
The official title of the sequel, Freakier Friday is set 20 years after the first film. The sequel will bring us back the iconic mother-daughter duo, Tess and Anna Coleman. Fans will remember Tess, the strict mother, and Anna, her rebellious teenage daughter, from Freaky Friday. The two swapped bodies after opening a fortune cookie that forced them to walk a mile in each other’s shoes. This unexpected switch gave them a deeper understanding of one another.
Now, Freakier Friday is back for more hilarious body-switching antics with the original casts from the first film.
Jamie Lee Curtis – as Tess Coleman. The sequel wouldn’t have happened if not for her. In this article from Screen Rant, Curtis mentioned she called Disney’s CEO Bob Iger to greenlight Freaky Friday 2. In addition to reprising her role, she also serves as a producer.
Lindsay Lohan – as Anna Coleman. Anna is now a mother to a fourteen-year-old daughter and a wife to a new British restaurateur husband. Lohan also serves as an executive producer of the sequel.
Chad Michael Murray – as Jake. Details about Murray’s character remain scarce, except to reprise his role as Anna’s love interest. Fans are buzzing with speculation. Could he be the father of Anna’s daughter, or is he returning to prove that love really is sweeter the second time around? We need answers!
Mark Harmon – as Ryan, Tess’s husband
Christina Vidal Mitchell and Haley Hudson – as Maddie and Peg, Anna’s best friends
Rosalind Chao and Lucille Soong – as Pei-Pei and her mom, the restaurant owners behind the magical fortune cookies that caused the body swap in the first place.
Stephen Tobolowsky – as Mr. Bates, Anna’s high school teacher who once had a crush on Tess and held a grudge after she turned him down for prom. He made sure Anna paid the price for her mother’s rejection.
New additions to the cast include Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Maitreyi Ramakrishna, in still undisclosed roles while Manny Jacinto is Anna’s new husband.
Who’s Missing in Freaky Friday 2?
Missing from the original cast are Harold Gould and Ryan Malgarini who played Grandpa and Harry Coleman, Anna’s younger brother. Gould sadly passed away in 2010.
However, there’s no official word about another notable absence from the returning cast: Julie Gonzalo, who portrayed Stacey Hinkhouse, Anna’s former friend turned bully in Freaky Friday. Fans are left wondering if she might join the cast, potentially seeking redemption or continuing to torment Anna after all these years.
Unfortunately, since filming for Freakier Friday already wrapped up in August 2024, it seems unlikely that Gonzalo will be part of the sequel, unless her involvement is being kept under wraps, which is doubtful. As one X (formerly Twitter) user put it, “pls bring back julie gonzalo for the freaky friday sequel”
