Lainey Wilson and Brooks & Dunn Play ‘Something Country’
Lainey Wilson has added yet another duet to her long list of duets that she did this year. This time the country music superstar is doing a song with Brooks & Dunn for their new album Reboot II.
When Lainey came into the studio to record the song with the guys, she wore a black and flamed shirt just like the one Kix Brooks used to wear back in the day.
We chatted with Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn about the new duet, and they were pretty excited about it.
Kix Brooks told us, “So we got our new Reboot II album coming out and really the concept is just, get the coolest artists that really want to redo these songs again, and just turn ’em loose with whatever producer they want to do, however, they want to do it.”
Ronnie added, “That’s 18 artists man, it’s a different twist on every song.”
Brooks adds with enthusiasm, “Lainey Wilson comes rolling in the room fired up, by fired up [I mean that] she had a flame shirt on, she had flame bellbottoms on, she jumped in the vocal booth and she just ripped and torched. Sounds like a ZZ Top version with Lainey singing, it’s really cool.”
Lainey said while sitting next to the duo in the studio, “I have been looking forward to this for so long. I mean, these dudes right here [pointing to the guys] are the soundtrack to my childhood.”
The song they covered was an old Brooks & Dunn hit, “Play Something Country.” Reboot II will be out on November 15.

Wilson came onto the scene in Nashville and became a country music superstar. These days, you see a lot of little girls running around in bellbottoms and cowboy hats emulating her distinctive style.
As Lainey told us recently, she sees all the little girls and takes her role in their lives very seriously. She offered, “I will tell you it’s the cutest thing I’ve ever seen, first of all, but I do feel a big responsibility. I feel like: I’ve got a lot of little people watching me, so I think even just from an award show, I realize that sometimes what you say is almost as important as what you sing.”
She knows what she says makes a difference, “You know, I want to say something that means something. I know that whatever I say, they’re probably going home and doing the same things.”
She concluded, “I’m not perfect by any means. I’m human just like everybody else, but I feel the responsibility, and I’m gonna do my best to try to be able to lay my head down at night and be proud of who I am and what I’ve done.”
