Alabama Tribute With Blake Shelton Premieres Tonight
Blake Shelton, Steve Wariner, Brad Paisley, Jamey Johnson, Jason Aldean, Little Big Town, Old Dominion, Pam Tillis & Lorrie Morgan, Riley Green, and Sam Hunt paid tribute to supergroup Alabama in song for CMT GIANTS: ALABAMA, which will premiere tonight (8/15) at 8p/7c on CMT.
The following songs were performed live before an invite-only audience at Belmont’s Fisher Center in Nashville in January 2024:
Alabama – “Mountain Music” + “My Home’s in Alabama”
Blake Shelton ft. Steve Wariner + Kara Britz – “Old Flame”
Brad Paisley – “Old Alabama”
Jamey Johnson – “Angels Among Us”

Sam Hunt – “Song of the South”
Blake said of his song choice of “Old Flame” before his performance, “I just always felt like ‘Old Flame’ was just one of the best Alabama songs for me. I just love the melody; I love the harmonies. When I got invited to be a part of this concert, that was the song I instantly thought of.”
He added, “I was hoping nobody else had already picked that song,” he continues. “Once they said, ‘Yeah, it’s clear, you can do that one,’ that’s when I called Steve Wariner, and I said, ‘Man, come do this tribute concert with me and help me recreate these harmonies.”

Shelton has a pretty solid set list of chart-topping hits when you get to see him live. He’ll likely play a lot of those songs when he debuts his Las Vegas Residency in December. But he says that he is hoping to feature a new and different kind of setlist.
Blake told me in an interview a few years ago, “Some of those old songs I had, like ‘Austin’ and ‘Ole Red’ and ‘Some Beach,’ They get as big of a reaction still today as my new songs. It shows me that that’s still alive, that sound, that type of music is still alive.”
He added, “So fans who bought those older records, I think they’ll be happy when they get to hear some of that stuff on stage. It’s almost like reaching back in time and making it sound like it’s up to date, too.”
Shelton also says that his shows are full of his brand of country music, but fans expect the TV star to be funny. So much fun is had at a Blake Shelton concert, and no one goes away without a smile.
