Lainey Wilson: What She Doesn’t See On Jelly Roll’s Face
Lainey Wilson and Jelly Roll are pretty close and call each other dear friends and even family. The two are together a lot, and even though she looks at his face often, Lainey admits she missed what others see right away when they look at Jelly.
She told us in an interview with Jelly next to her recently, “Let me say something about Jelly’s tattoos. This shows you how I see his soul; one day, my sister was like, ‘What do Jelly’s tattoos on his face say?’ And I was like, ‘He’s got face tattoos?’ I didn’t even realize he had any on his face. That’s how much I see him and who he is to his core.”
Wilson said of her having her own ink, “I don’t have a tattoo, but if anyone could talk me into getting one, it’s probably him.”
Jelly told us of his many tattoos, “I’ve got so many bad tattoos, I don’t care to have anymore. I get tour tattoos.”

In the same interview, Wilson told us how much she appreciated getting CMA’s Entertainer honor, but to her, it was more of a challenge than a career cap. She said, “The people that I look up to and respect voted for me, and it’s really cool to be recognized. When we won, I’m just the type of person where I’m not like. ‘Alright, we did it, that’s it.’ I was like, ‘Okay, well, they crowned me Entertainer of the Year, so it’s about time I show ’em that I am.’ For the ones who thought I deserved it and for the ones who thought I didn’t.”
She added, “That’s just part of who I am and part of my DNA. I take the gift; I accept it with an open heart, but at the end of the day, it doesn’t define me. That’s not what made me want to start writing music in the first place, and it’s not the thing that makes me continue writing music. It’s just a really nice gift from up above of being recognized. I appreciate it so, so much, but there are a lot of other things that keep me going.”
