Townes first introduced the track to her fans on social media by asking them to tag their “ride or die” and the person in their life who takes them “as you are” in the comments. She co-wrote “As You Are” alongside Margaret Elizabeth Chapman and David Pramik.
“This is a song I wrote about being there for somebody, accepting and loving every part of who they are. It’s also a song about being brave and letting down the walls, to let your true self, actually be seen. That’s something I’m working on right now. I hope this song brings you comfort, if you’re working on it too,” Townes explained on Instagram.
In another post on Instagram, Townes explained, “When I wrote this song I convinced myself I was writing it about being there for someone else, because that distance is how I can process my own vulnerability. It wasn’t until the song was done and I heard it back that I realized I’d written it as what I want to hear when I’ve locked myself away inside the walls I build. It felt good to notice that.”
Most recently, Townes hosted her 13th annual Big Hearts For Big Kids benefit in her hometown, Grande Prairie, Alberta. The singer-songwriter raised more than $418,000 for a local emergency youth shelter, and this year, a portion of the proceeds will benefit Room In The Inn, a non-profit in Nashville.
In other news, Towns has just launched “The Crew 2.o” and is now inviting her fans to sign up. The new community will offer access to presale tickets, never-before-seen photos and videos, road life updates, new music, and even journal entries from Townes herself.
The 30-year-old will hit the road for her very own headlining 2024 As You Are Tour starting April 24 in Anaheim, California through May 19 in Evanston, Illinois. Townes has previously supported Dierks Bentley, Miranda Lambert, and Brothers Osborne, among others on tour.
