Toby Keith’s Son Posts Emotional Tribute
The death of Toby Keith has hit everyone in country music hard, but not as hard as it has hit Keith’s family in Oklahoma. Toby’s son Stelan just posted about the loss of his father, who died Monday (2/5) after a battle with stomach cancer.
Stelen posted a long and emotional tribute to his “hero” on Instagram. He posted a photo of him and his famous dad playing in a pool when Stelan was a kid. He wrote, “You are the strongest man I have ever known. A fighter. A true titan of your industry. My guiding star. My coach. My hero. An embodiment of the American Spirit. You are a man whose strength, prowess, and talent could only be trumped by his ability to be a father and husband.”
He continued, “Your impact is forever stamped on the world and on millions of people, yet not one person knew you the way I did. You were my biggest champion and the guiding light in my darkest times. The best mentor a man could ask for. You held a passion that was greater than mountains, and it radiates through every lyric and chord. In the everlasting echo from the legacy of your music, you leave me strength and faith to lean on in the silence that follows.”

Stelen concluded, “You truly did it your way, from the starting gates to the finish line, and never apologized for it. The only thing I truly ever wanted in life was to make you proud. I promise I will continue to make you proud. It’s not goodbye forever; it’s just goodbye for now.”
Many fans reacted to the post with messages of condolences. One fan wrote, “Thank you for the sacrifices your family made sharing your dad with the world. I’m sure it wasn’t always easy to do. He was loved by many. My sincere condolences to your mom and your family. It hurts to say goodbye, but it’s only for a little while.”
Keith was married to wife Tricia Lucus for almost 40 years. The couple has three children: Shelley Covel Rowland, born in 1980; their daughter Krystal, born in 1985; and son Stelan, born in 1997.
