Reba’s Boyfriend Is Excited About Her Super Bowl Performance

Reba McEntire is set to perform the National Anthem before Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas. The Super Bowl will take place at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday, February 11, and will air on CBS.

Reba chatted with CBS Mornings to talk about her latest moment in the national spotlight with Gayle King. Gayle told the country icon what a big deal it was to sing at the Super Bowl. She asked how one gets to sing at the Super Bowl. She said, “I got the news from my manager, and I said, ‘Oh my gosh, let me think about it.’ And my boyfriend Rex (Linn), a huge football fan, said, ‘Yes, she’ll do it. Absolutely.'”

When asked how you get ready for a big gig like that, Reba said, “You just warm up like you do a concert and sing it five or six times and just do it.”

The performance will mark a full-circle moment for Reba. She was discovered 50 years ago singing the National Anthem at the 1974 National Finals Rodeo in Oklahoma.

Reba said, “I’m honored to be part of something as big and historic as the Super Bowl coming to Las Vegas for the first time. 2024 marks 50 years since I was discovered singing the National Anthem at the National Finals Rodeo. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate that anniversary.”

Along with Reba, pre-game talent for the Super Bowl includes Post Malone and Andra Day, with Usher performing at halftime.

Reba recently picked some artist-asked questions from a fishbowl in a new CMT fun promo on their Instagram. The country icon covered subjects from country stars HARDY, Cody Johnson, Dierks Bentley, and Wynonna.

Reba picked up a green card, noting it was her favorite color, she said in the cute video posted to CMT’s Instagram, “From HARDY. Hi HARDY. What is your death row meal?” Without hesitation, Reba said, “A Sonic number one cheeseburger, no onions, ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, and whatever pickles.”

She then picked a question from her buddy Cody Johnson: Have you ever been bucked off a horse? Reba got real serious and said, “Cody, no.” She paused and added, “I’ve been dragged off and fallen off.”

Reba picked a question by Dierks Bentley, saying before she read it, “I love Dierks.” She read the question, “If You could go back and re-rerecord an old song of yours, what would it be?” She answered, “I think I would like to re-record ‘Suddenly There’s A Valley.'” She looked at the cameras and said, “You are going to have to look that up because it’s on an album from a long time ago, probably the late seventies.”

Five Reba Music Videos That Are Classics

  • "Is There Life Out There" (1991)

    Reba plays a waitress in this dramatic music video that was also a TV movie. The story and drama of this video are lovely, and this journalist also has a soft spot for it. Full disclosure: I was an extra in the film and video as a graduate in cap and gown. It was filmed at Vanderbilt’s campus in Nashville. This is the video Reba won the ACM Award in 1991 for Video of the Year. Singer Huey Lewis stars as her husband in the music video. In the 1994 TV movie, actor Keith Carradine plays that part.

  • "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia" (1991)

    This is another music video that could be a movie. Reba notes it as one of her favorite songs. In the video, Reba plays her character as an older woman as she tells the story. Her character is the little sister and convicted killer in the sad story.

  • "Whoever's in New England" (1986)

    In 1987, McEntire won the GRAMMY Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance for this song. It was her first GRAMMY win. The music video was one of Reba’s first to really show her dramatic actress side.

  • "Does He Love You" with Dolly Parton (2021)

    Reba did this song and a music video for it in 1993 with Linda Davis. However, in 2021, she made music history when she redid the duet with country icon Dolly Parton. It was the first time the two country Queens recorded a song together. Their performance of the song was nominated for a GRAMMY for Best Country Duo/Group Performance in 2022. The version of the song with Davis won the GRAMMY award for Best Country Vocal Collaboration in 1994.

  • "Fancy" (1991)

    This is Reba’s biggest hit and her most talked about music video. When Carrie Underwood scored her 15th number-one song on country radio “Church Bells,” in 2016, she recalled that when the song came out, she believed it was sort of a smaller version of Reba’s song.

    Underwood told me about it in a recent interview. “‘Church Bells’ is like ‘Fancy’s’ little sister (laughs) — Reba and ‘Fancy.’ And she gets out and makes a name for herself by, you know, she’s got her dancin’ dress and all that stuff. And this one she starts, you know, she’s young, she’s pretty, she’s poor — doin’ what she can to survive, meets a man that has a lot of wealth and is supposed to, you know, take care of her and get her out of this.”

Nancy Brooks has been working in the country music industry for almost 30 years. She has interviewed pretty much any country star you can think of. In the late 1990s, she started working with Dolly Parton. And yes, Nancy reports that Parton is as sweet as you would think. She loves her life in country music and has been backstage at every CMA Awards show since the late 1990s. Many of her stories are from her one-on-one interviews. She was there at the beginning of the incredible careers of many music superstars today, including Taylor Swift, Shania Twain, and Blake Shelton, and has interviewed them multiple times throughout the years.
