Darius Rucker Refused To Wear Certain Team Jerseys In His NFL Line
Darius Rucker announced his NFL Darius Rucker Collection by Fanatics, featuring T-shirts, fleeces, outerwear, and more in 2021.
Darius is a well-known and lifelong fan of the Miami Dolphins. One thing he did struggle to do when his line was announced was model the team logos of those who are not his beloved Dolphins.
He told me in a recent interview when I asked how hard it was to wear logos of teams he does not root for. He said, “That’s a good question. I went around and around about that. I finally said, ‘I’m the only model for my stuff because they want me to do it that way.’ So I have to wear the other teams because we are selling all 32 teams, so you want people to buy them.”
He added, “It was tough to wear other teams’ apparel, and there were some teams I just wouldn’t wear. Like, they wanted to put a Patriots thing on me, I said, ‘No.’ They wanted to put a Giants jersey on me, ‘No.'”
Darius noted to the USA Today when the line came out, “When you are up there with a band and playing a song, we have to play at the same tempo and have to play all the right notes. Football is a prime example. You can’t have guys doing all different things on a play than what they are supposed to.”
To date, Darius’ most memorable shows have something in common with his love of sports. He offers, “Wrigley Field, I will never forget that. I still can’t believe I just said that we played Wrigley Field with Rascal Flatts, and it was amazing. To do the national anthem at Yankee Stadium or sing it in Atlanta for the World Series. Or Madison Square Garden — it’s not just known for sports; that is your dream call to play as an artist. I love that place. It is way past the word iconic.”
