Denning posted a photo of himself in the studio today (11/15) on Instagram with the caption:
“Today, I finished the last song of what will be my first full length project. I’ve been going back through the pictures from the days in the studio and I realized we spent a full year on this music. Early on, I was just recording songs without a whole lot of direction or even the thought that it would all be a part of one album. But in April, I wrote a song that shifted all of that thinking. I knew right then it would be the anchor, the theme and the title of an album. After that, I knew exactly where we were headed. This whole process has been difficult, challenging, exciting, and scary but DAMN. It has been fun. 2024, we’re comin’ for ya.”
The news comes after the release of “Things I’m Going Through” which Denning calls “the best story song he’s recorded so far in his career.” Plus, earlier this month, he dropped “Going Places,” which he co-wrote with Matt Mulhare, Paul DiGiovanni, and Jeremy Stover.
“I think “Going Places” is a sonic departure from where I’ve usually been known to go,” said Denning. “Lyrically, I wanted to paint a picture of a storyline of two people that ran together then blew apart into two very different lives. I tried to challenge myself to think outside of my normal comfort zone melodically and musically with this one, and that’s been the motive for all the new music I’ve been working on.”
