It was a star-studded evening at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s CMA Theater in Nashville, Tennessee. Loveless, McDill, and Tucker were formally inducted during the 2023 Medallion Ceremony as the 150th, 151st, and 152nd members.
The theatre was filled with the honorees’ family, friends, fellow country stars, and music executives. Plus, we even had a lineup of special guest performers, including Charley Crockett, Dean Dillon, Jamey Johnson, Sister Sadie, Bob Seger, Vince Gill, Charlie McCoy, Wynonna Judd, Margo Price, Jessi Colter, and Brandi Carlile.
The newest Country Music Hall of Fame members personally selected who would present them with their medallions. Country Music Hall of Fame member Don Schlitz presented to McDill. Gill presented the medallion to Loveless. Connie Smith along with Brenda Lee presented Tucker with her medallion.
The first honoree of the evening was McDill (songwriter category). He wrote several No. 1 country songs including “Amanda,” “Don’t Close Your Eyes,” and “Gone Country.”
Bob McDill
To celebrate McDill, before accepting his medallion, Crockett performed “Louisiana Saturday Night.” Dean Dillon took the stage to perform “All The Good Ones Are Gone,” Johnson with “Good Ole Boys Like Me.” He retired in 2000. But the music he wrote will live on forever. Alabama, Alan Jackson, and Waylon Jennings are among the artists who performed his songs.
Patty Loveless
Next up was Loveless (Modern Era Artists category). She followed her true calling with her traditional country sound. Loveless landed 31 Top 20 country hits between 1988 and 2003.
In her honor, Sister Sadie performed “The Sounds of Loneliness.” Her good friend, Gill, played “Lonely Too Long.” It was also a surprise to many as well as the honoree, when rock icon Bob Seger hit the stage. He sang “She Drew A Broken Heart,” released in 1996 on Loveless’ The Trouble With The Truth album.
Tanya Tucker
Last but certainly not least, Tucker (Veterans Era Artist category), was honored with her three children by her side. As the CEO of the Country Music Hall of Fame, Kyle Young, said, “Her songs are cornerstones of modern country music.”
Tucker was a hit recording artist by the time she turned 13. She was a millionaire at the age of 16. And she had six No. 1 records before she turned 18. She has since made several comebacks into the country genre.
McCoy and Judd performed “Delta Dawn,” a Tucker classic and No. 1 hit. Price and Colter joined forces for “It’s A Little Too Late.” “Two Sparrows In A Hurricane” was performed by Carlile, who also produced her 2019 album, While I’m Livin’.
Later, Judd led a performance of “Will The Circle Be Unbroken.”
