Ashley McBryde: ‘Massive Respect’ For Fellow CMA Nominees
When Lainey Wilson won the Female Vocalist award for the first time at last year’s CMA Awards in Nashville, she came backstage and told us that right after the win, two women in the category came up to her to congratulate her. Those two women were fellow nominees Miranda Lambert and Ashley McBryde.
Miranda has often talked about her fellow nominees when she stood on the stage to accept the honor. Ashley McBryde has never won CMA Female Vocalist, but she did help her friend Carly Pearce accept the award in 2021 when Carly was too emotional to speak.

We talked with Ashley earlier this month and asked about the five women in the 2023 category for Female Vocalist of the Year at this year’s CMA awards. She told us what she, Pearce, Miranda Lambert, Lainey Wilson, and Kelsea Ballerini share, “I think it’s massive respect all the way across the board. And we all make really different music, and we’ve all had really different journeys to get there, and none of us see those differences as less than or more than.”
McBryde added, “Some of us got there by playing in bars, some of us our dream started taking root when he worked at Dollywood, and some of us moved here when we were seventeen. We look at each other and the work that we’ve done and scratching for every single inch. Every woman in that category has scratched for every half inch of stage she’s ever stood on, and we understand that about each other.”
She concluded, “That deserves to be celebrated no matter who walks home with the hardware.”
The 57th Annual CMA Awards will be handed out on November 8, 2023.
