Garth Brooks Does Something He’s Never Done Before

Garth Brooks is asked all the time if there are things in his life and career that he's never done before. For his wife Trisha Yearwood's birthday today (9/19), he did one of those things.

Garth gushed on Studio G last night (9/18), "I made a cake." He admitted that he wasn't feeling confident about the outcome. The reason came to light when Trisha arrived a little while later and discovered the cake in the kitchen.

Brooks said, "Here's the confession. The first layer came out great." He then explained that he had a little trouble getting the second layer out of the cake pan. Garth continued, "I thought, 'Well, just let it sit and go ice the first layer.' And then it started to come loose! I went, 'All right!' So then I'm standing there with it in my hand, but I haven't iced the first one yet. So I've got it in one hand, trying to ice with the other one, and it starts to fall apart. It was horrible!"

Trisha revealed Garth wasn't exactly smooth in executing his plan. She said, "Late last night, I get this, 'Hey, if a fella, a friend of mine was going to be baking a cake, and the recipe called for a square pan, but I want to put it in a round pan – my friend wanted to put it in a round pan'" The clues that someone had been baking also weren't hard to spot when she got home. She noted, "I saw all the dirty dishes in the sink, so I know he made it."

Brooks said that the cake was a "Triple Chocolate Cake Brownie, and I made a peanut butter frosting with chocolate chips."

Garth has three grown daughters with his first wife, Sandy. Their father has been famous since before Taylor Mayne Pearl (30), August Anna (29), and Allie Colleen (26) were born. Garth's youngest daughter has followed her father into country music.

When we chatted with Brooks recently, he told us about how he raised his three girls along with his first wife, Sandy, and now wife, Trisha Yearwood, and his thoughts on them having a celebrity parent.

He told us, "Here's the deal, man, some of us are left-handed, some of us are right-handed, and I've had this discussion with them. 'Look, you grew up the child of a celebrity, that's it, but from that point on, it's up to you.' Right? But after a certain point, it's up to you from there forward, and that's where they're at. 'This is up to you, so you can blame all you want, but it's up to you. And you have the power to change that however you want.'"

Garth Brooks is a country superstar that can command a stadium full of people in any city he plays, even though his last stadium tour is one that he says was his last. Now with his sites set on a Las Vegas "Garth Brooks / Plus One" at the Coliseum at Caesars Palace residency for the foreseeable future, Garth is celebrating his 61st birthday today (2/7).

Brooks chatted with fans on his weekly Studio G recently (1/9). He said, "I'll tell you right now, this will be the busiest year of our career." It's a big statement coming from a guy who's filled many years of his life on the road and in the studio. He added, "There are going to be so many things happening this year."

Later in the year, he and Trisha Yearwood are committed to a Habitat for Humanity building project on behalf of former President and First Lady Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter. But what else does he have on tap? He does have his new downtown Nashville entertainment venue, Friends in Low Places. Brooks laughs, "This year, we get to open up, I hope."

Garth is also expecting to return to the recording studio this year. He offered, "The studio is going to be wide open this year. We're going to go in and just do a lot of things that probably never will see the light of day. But, to be honest with you, those are my favorite sessions." He added, "This'll probably be one of the heaviest years we've ever had 'cause everything's just coming around to an end or a beginning, which is cool."
