Forever Young: Clear Indicators That You’re Still A Kid At Heart

Author Kayla Morgan
July 7th 3:28 PM

Being a kid at heart means cherishing simple pleasures and finding delight in the little things. This particular adult defies the norms and stereotypes, refusing to let go of the joy and wonder that comes with childhood. They’re the ones who show up to a fancy dinner party wearing a superhero t-shirt or break out into an impromptu dance routine when their favorite song comes on.

You’ll often find them immersed in playful activities that make typical adults do a double-take. They might be huddled in a blanket fort, watching cartoons with a bowl of cereal, or challenging their friends to a game of laser tag. Their sense of humor is contagious, and they effortlessly bring out the mischievous side in everyone around them. Above all, this adult, a kid at heart, reminds us that life is too short to take everything seriously.

Could you be a “kidult?”

The Urban Dictionary defines a “kidult” like this: “A kidult is an adult that prefers items that society deems are for a younger person. An adult who plays with toys or games. Also could be an adult who wears clothing that a teenager or younger person would wear.” In a recent survey, people were asked whether they identify as “kidults,” which refers to those still passionate about the things they adored during their childhood. According to a survey commissioned by MGA’s Miniverse and conducted by OnePoll among 2,000 Gen Zers and millennials, it was discovered that 67% of respondents would eagerly seek out a replica of a cherished item from their childhood if given the chance. Additionally, 76% expressed experiencing a nostalgic sentiment during this pursuit.

A big kid at heart.

More than half of the respondents revealed that they frequently indulge in purchasing items that their parents might have discouraged. The most popular items in this category are video games, clothing, and indulgent junk food.

In the survey, people ranked the telltale signs of being a total kid at heart. At the top of the list is rewatching many old movies or shows you loved as a kid. But that’s not all. Tuning in to cartoons and constantly getting hit with nostalgia for those classic toys or products from your childhood ranked high on their list. Also, at the top of the list is dropping quotes from your favorite movies and shows of yesteryear. Even finding yourself Googling all those toys and goodies you used to have back in the day made the list.

Are you a kidult? Take a look at the full study here.

And you know us, we love giving you fun graphic tees that bring you some nostalgia. So, we’ve put together a list of Saturday Morning cartoon t-shirts that are going to have you feeling like you’ve blasted back in time.

  • 1) Far Out – The Jetsons

    Share

One of the best cartoons was definitely The Jetsons. This futuristic family was so fun to watch and while I’m incredibly partial to Judy and Astro, this shirt featuring him and Elroy is so fun. Also, the fact that we’re now just a few years away from the time frame the Jetsons took place is a bit exciting and terrifying. Heck, George Jetson was supposed to be born this year! Regardless, this fun tee is available in sizes Small through XXXL.

  • 2) The Modern Stone Age Family – The Flintstones

    Share

Yabba Dabba Doo! We jumped ahead into the future and now we’re going back to the Stone Age. The Flintstones were another great nuclear family show featuring a fun-loving pet. If you weren’t sitting there conjuring up ways to get a dinosaur as a pet somehow were you really a Flintstones fan? This show was so much fun to watch as a kid so I knew we had to include it.

  • 4) Muttley – Wacky Races

    Share

Wacky Races was easily one of my favorites growing up! This Hanna-Barbera production featuring a cast of literal “wacky” racers was hilarious. Penelope Pitstop, The Slag Brothers, The Gruesome Twosome, Peter Perfect, and who could forget about Dick Dastardly and his canine companion Muttley featured here on this tee. The show was all kinds of funny and unfortunately I’ve been when I laugh sometimes I laugh like Muttley does, so I’m a bit more partial to the show.

  • 5) The Smurfs

    Share

The one theme song that I probably didn’t care for was The Smurfs, but the show was still a lot of fun to watch every Saturday morning. This vintage-style Smurf shirt though might be one of my favorites on the list. Not only do I love the color in the featured picture, but I love all the color options and sizes.

  • 6) Animaniacs

    Share

Now, I know The Animaniacs is from the 90s, but it’s still a classic cartoon! Although the revival wasn’t what I hoped it would be, the original show was so fun and hilarious. I learned my United States capitals because of it! This shirt feature Wakko, Yakko, and Dot is super fun, and has that faded vintage look to it.
