Celebrating His and Ella Langley’s CMA Win
After winning the 2024 CMA Award for Musical Event of the Year with “You Look Like You Love Me” with Ella Langley, Smith asked Green if they celebrated. Green said, “Well, I've pretty much celebrated everything in my life the same way. I go over to the bar, got the duck blind over there and I think we all went over there after the award show and my mom and dad came in town. I don't know if you saw during the performance, my mom actually put my cowboy hat on for me.”
Green laughed, “She was extremely nervous about that.” Smith asked how much convincing it took for his mother to do it. He admitted, “I kind of sprung it on her. But it was cute. She was happy to be there, and pops was there. He's back in the back telling all the Jelly Roll security guards, a bunch of jokes and stuff. So, it was cool to be able to share that with them."
He laughed, "And obviously, like I said, really happy for Ella and glad she's going to be on tour with me because when she wasn't last year, I had to do this song with just any girl in the crowd that would come up.” He chuckled. “That's a risk. It's a risky thing.”
Riley Green's The Damn Country Music Tour
Smith asked Green how he is feeling about The Damn Country Music Tour. Green said, “Well, I really enjoyed the break. We had a busy year last year, so it's been nice to be able to go home and visit with everybody and do a little bit of hunting and all that. But, having this new album came out in October, I really haven't had a chance to go play those songs live.”
He added, “So I've got a lot of brand-new songs and certainly excited about being out on tour and being able to play them. I think that's kind of what drives me, especially as a songwriter, is to go test these songs out and see which ones they're singing the loudest. And having Ella back out on the road is going to be great. Drake White, Jake Worthington, a bunch of artists I'm just a huge fan of, it's going to be a really fun tour.”
