Happy New Year from Dan + Shay!
Ladies and gents, grab your cowboy boots and pour yourself a glass of whiskey because Backstage Country is welcoming the new year with two hosts for the price of one! Dan + Shay is Backstage Country’s co-hosts for the week! Listen as the country music duo tell Kelly Ford how they welcomed the new year and what advice they want to share with the listeners to make the most of 2025.
Dan + Shay Welcoming 2025
Ford asked the pair what they wanted more and less of in 2025. Shay said it was a great question. He said, “More time is something that you’re never going to get. You’re never going to get more time. So, make the most of what you actually get. I’m really trying to do that, trying to soak that in not just with my family, but with the people that we get to build this dream with. I want to spend more time with our friends and obviously our families.”
He then profoundly said that time is also what he wants less of in 2025—specifically, less wasted time. “I want to make sure that I’m making the most of the time that we’re given here. And, not to get too serious. We’re never promised tomorrow. And that’s not a scary thing. It’s just a reminder that we need to make the most of what we’re given and very thankful to have been given this time with you.” He also added that spending time with Ford doing Backstage Country is a real joy.
Ford followed up the New Year question by asking Dan and Shay what word they would associate 2025 with. Shay quickly responded with the word “gratitude,” but he made it clear that it was not just for this year. “That is something Dan and I have really tried to remind ourselves of that we get to do this, we don’t have to. And gratitude would probably be my word. Dan probably has a way better word because he knows more of them.”
Ford joked Dan probably got a better grade in on his SAT tests than Shay. Dan agreed with Shay’s word and would have said the same thing, but if he had been asked to give a new word, his word would be “present.”
“I feel like being present is such an important thing. Whatever you’re doing, when you’re spending time with somebody. And again, it goes along with the gratitude thing. It goes along with appreciating the moment, and appreciating where you are. But I think going out of your way to be present at every moment, whether it’s on stage at a show, whether it’s talking to you, whether it’s hanging out with family or with the dogs or whatever it is, just be present.”
