Inside Ella Langley’s Life as a Country Singer
After debuting her first studio album, Hungover, selling out The Still Hungover tour and winning a CMA awrd, Ella Langley recounts her incredible year with Backstage Country’s Kelly Ford.
The Still Hungover Tour
Langley talked about how cool the past year has been. “When you spend this long dreaming about something, working for something with very little reward. It almost feels a little unbelievable, but also a little jarring in a way. You’re like, ‘Whoa! Sold out shows.’ The song is doing insane things just cruising through the radio. And I played at a stadium for the first time this year. I put out my first record. I did my first headlining tour. You know, every single show sold out.”
She added, “And there was one venue we played in Texas where we sold the most tickets they’ve ever sold there, specifically, for a female country. I love playing shows, and I love recording music. And so, this year, watching it start to happen for the first time has been overwhelming in the best way possible.”
Ella Langley’s First CMA Award Win
Ford asked Langley what it felt like to win the CMA Award for Musical Event of the Year for her duet with Riley Green. She said, “Being nominated with people like Post Malone, Kacey Musgraves, it’s pretty wild to see your name up there with those people that you just look up to. So that’s crazy.” Langley added, “The older you get, you learn how to work for something, learn that it doesn’t happen overnight. So, I was not expecting to win. I didn’t even write a speech.”
She continued, “And we were in the car on the way there. And they told me in the car, two minutes before we pulled up to the red carpets. You can see my face, just like disbelief, like what? Me? And the rest of the night was just insane and then getting to perform. That was so cool. I mean, getting to play in Bridgestone Arena is awesome.”
Ford also commended Langley’s performance during the awards night and how confident she looked walking and talking through the first lines of the song. Langley chuckled, “I think at this point it’s muscle memory. I do think that I know this is what I was born to do, and I work very hard at the performance aspect of it. I danced throughout my whole life, and choreographed routines. And you know, last year there were 150 shows. That’s a lot of practice right there.”
