Madison Square Garden Went Wild for Kelsea Ballerini’s ‘Patterns’ Release
Kelsea Ballerini launched her new album Patterns at New York’s legendary Madison Square Garden. She spoke about it with Kelly Ford on Backstage Country.
Headlining Madison Square Garden
Ballerini mentioned how integral New York was to writing Patterns. “It’s just kind of where a lot of the music was inspired. And to me, I’m a swing for the fences kind of gal. You know me, the more the merrier, the bigger the better.” So, to have the album release party at Madison Square Garden was perfect. “We wanted to do a big release show. When it was presented as Madison Square Garden, I was like, ‘Man, I’ve only headlined one arena before.’ This is scary to put up.”
Despite being scared, Ballerini still decided to go for it. “I’ve been so protective of not jumping to arenas too soon because there’s not a lot of women in country that have made that jump to arenas. And so, I knew that if I ever did it, I wanted it to be where I could do it well for everyone. I think it’s time. It’s now or never.”
Her risk paid off; her show sold out right off.
What Kelsea Ballerini Has Learned So Far
Ford asked Ballerini what she wanted new artists to take away from the whole experience. She said, “Don’t forget to have fun. It’s really easy, especially on tour, to just kind of get robotic with it every night. You’re doing 40 shows and it’s more or less the same show every night,” she added, “You go to the stage and it’s kind of the same, and it’s easy to just let it feel monotonous.” She advised, based on her experiences, “I think just making sure that you’re staying present and having fun.”
