From Country Star to Mentor: Kelsea Ballerini’s ‘The Voice’ Experience
From November 11 to 15, Backstage Country’s Kelly Ford will be joined by a co-host who’s still riding high from her epic album launch at Madison Square Garden. Yup, that’s right! Kelsea Ballerini is back for round two after her first hosting stint back in June!
The Voice Season 27
Ford did not miss the chance to ask Ballerini about The Voice. She said, “It’s so fun. I mean, I really liked it, guys. I really have. I’m up there with Adam Levine, John Legend, Michael Bublé. I grew up on their music,” she added, “It’s definitely a different muscle for me. And I’m in puberty still, like I’m in the puberty phase of my career. They are not. They are full-grown. And so, to be there in that seat, I really had to find my voice and space to be like, ‘I’m still valid.’ The knowledge that I have of my ten-year career is still valid. And I’m proud of it. And my team is so good.”
Ford also asked Ballerini what’s important for her as a coach to pass along. “I’m really looking for storytellers because for me, as much as I like, have grown up on big voices like Kelly Clarkson and Carrie [Underwood], that’s not what my voice does. And so, I have more of a storyteller voice, and I connect a lot with those artists. So, there are a lot of amazing singers in our season. I have a few on my team that are amazing, but I’m very interested in the storytellers and a lot of them are just young women.”
Kelsea Ballerini’s Dream Collaborations
In line with working with other artists and a recent collaboration with Noah Kahan, Ford asked Ballerini who her dream collaborators were. The answer came easily to Ballerini, and she said, “Frank Sinatra.” Ford agreed and said she could pull off an album of pop standards. “I love that you can see that with me because it’s different, it’s not the style of my voice that I use, obviously for country records, but I grew up on that kind of music and I can.” Aside from Frank Sinatra, Ballerini shared that the other artists on her list are Shakira and Kenny Chesney and how she’s been lucky enough to have collaborated with both.
Don’t miss out on Kelsea Ballerini’s stint as co-host all week long where she talks about her latest album, Patterns, having a relationship in the public eye, turning 31, touring, and the TV shows she’s been binge watching lately.
