Riley Green Gets Candid About His Songs
From October 28 to November 1, Backstage Country is welcoming the man behind the album, Don’t Mind If I Do. Country singer and songwriter Riley Green will keep Kelly Ford, and the listeners, entertained with his behind-the-scenes secrets and the inspirations to his songs.
“Damn Good Day to Leave”
“Damn Good Day to Leave” is Green’s second single from his second album, Ain’t My Last Rodeo. According to him, the song is “Going to be a fun breakup song if there is such a thing.” He added, “I love the idea of ‘Yes, she left, but it didn’t hurt as bad because the fish were biting that day.’”
“Don’t Mind If I Do”
Ford asked Green what it was like to work with Ella Langley. Green shared, “I knew I wanted it to be a duet. And I asked her if she’d come by the studio and put a female vocal on it. Not necessarily for her to be on the song. We just so I could hear it and make sure the key was right,” he admitted. Of course, Langley did a wonderful job and Green conceded. “I just couldn’t imagine having anybody else on it! So, it worked out great and I love to have her on the road with me.”
“You Look Like You Loved Me”
“Don’t Mind If I Do” isn’t Green’s only collaboration with Langley. Ford told Green when the song “You Look Like You Loved Me” came out, she was so excited, and it sounded so country. “Yeah, it’s very exciting to see a song become such a big hit and almost overnight it seemed I couldn’t open my phone the next day and not see this song.” He admitted, “It just goes to show I have no idea what a hit is because I didn’t see that coming.”
“Jesus Saves”
Green shared that “Jesus Saves” is one of the songs that as soon as he finished writing made him feel some type of emotion. He admits that it’s also fun to see people get the same emotion as he did while listening to it. “I wrote ‘Jesus Saves’ about a guy and I just started thinking about how tough it would be to win over a stranger.” He added, “Maybe somebody had been through [something] in their life that might make us a little more compassionate and not jump to conclusions about how they got in that situation. So, I thought it was a great message.”
