Here’s Why Riley Green Released ‘Don’t Mind If I Do’ On His Birthday
Backstage Country’s Kelly Ford asked Riley Green why he decided to have his latest album released on his birthday. “Well, you know, your birthday is a pretty good reason to celebrate. And obviously, when you have a body of work that’s 18 songs, some of them songs I’ve written two years ago even, and some of them were brand new songs [you want to release them].”
He added, “It’s just an exciting time to be able to go out on the road and have fans showing up to where they are and have brand new music to play. I mean, we go and play the same songs over and over again every night. So, as an artist, I think I can speak for everybody when I say new music is probably the coolest thing that you can do.”
Riley Green on Choosing His Collaborators
Green has collaborations in his latest album with Ella Langley and Luke Bryan. Ford was curious about how Green decides who to include in his projects. Green admitted, “Well, in every collaboration I’ve done, there’s never been anything political or somebody major called me. It’s always been just people that I’m a fan of or somebody that I’m friends with.”
Among these collaborations, he said, “Being on tour with Ella last year, we had “You Look Like You Love Me” [and it] became a big hit, and she was just a perfect fit for “Don’t Mind If I Do.” And you know, you write a song about fishing and drinking beer. You can’t not call Luke Bryan.”
What He Wants People to Know About Don’t Mind If I Do
Ford asked Green what he wanted people, those who don’t know him, to know about his album. “Well, I feel like it’s a great example of not only how I got here musically and in songs that I’ve always been writing, those ballad-type songs to tell the story, but also where I am now in my career.”
He said that his writing is also different now and believes he’s better than when he started. “You learn things and we’re spending time overseas now. We went to London and Australia this year. So, it’s exciting to be able to write from a bigger standpoint and try to appeal to more people. So, it’s cool that this record got a lot of different types of songs on it, I think.”
