Justin Moore Talks About His Latest Album ‘This Is My Dirt’
Despite his busy schedule after releasing his latest album, This Is My Dirt and touring, Justin Moore still found the time to co-host Backstage Country with Kelly Ford from October 14-18, 2024.
Justin Moore’s Eighth Studio Album
Ford did not waste any time and immediately asked Moore for the highlights and lowlights of working on his latest album. “It’s always fun to get new music out there. And any time you have the opportunity to include some artists you have a ton of respect for, you know, for example, we have three collaborations on this album, as you mentioned. One with Dierks, one with Blake Shelton, and one with Randy Houser.”
He added, “I’m really good friends with all those guys. But for them to take the time and effort and lend their talents to this album is really special. But as far as the rest of the album goes, I think it’s really good songwriting.” Moore chuckled, “I don’t mean that boastfully, I just really do. I think it’s really good and with each album maybe I grow up a little bit more.”
Justin Moore Wore Cowboy Hats When Cowboy Hats Weren’t Cool
As a country singer with a long career, Ford asked Moore what it means to him now that cowboy hats are making a comeback. “You know, for me, it’s awesome. And I’ve seen it throughout my career when I first initially came out. It was still really traditional.” Moore shared, “A few years into my career, [country music] kind of went a little more pop sound and you had the rap country stuff. And I’m like ‘I can’t do any of that.’ I’m not going to and that’s not a knock against any of the folks that were doing that stuff. I mean, there was certainly a huge audience for it, and it helped grow our format.”
He added, “I just love traditional songs and country music. And so, I just stuck with that. But I couldn’t have done that and still had a career, had country radio not stayed with me.”
Justin Moore: His Choice Not to Live in Nashville
For a country singer, it seems the choice not to live in Nashville is unusual. Ford asked Moore about the good and bad parts of his choice. “I moved there and lived there until we had our oldest daughter. And she was very, very young, not even a year when we moved back home. So, I lived there for maybe nine years, and I had to be there to get my career going. But it was always my intention to move back home [to Arkansas].”
Ford said it worked out okay for him, to which Moore agreed. “Yeah, it did. So, we’ve been very fortunate. You know, it’s not for every artist. But I think for certain people, it really is good. It’s been great for me, and if I hadn’t moved back home, I wouldn’t be doing this for a living anymore because I was miserable.”
