Luke Bryan Reveals Inspiration Behind ‘Mind of a Country Boy’ Songs
After four long years, Luke Bryan finally released his latest album, Mind of a Country Boy. The long wait was over, but it was all worth it with 14 new tracks—two of which Bryan co-wrote.
“Love You, Miss You, Mean It”
The inspiration behind the “Love You, Miss You, Mean It” is Bryan and his wife Caroline’s love story. “It really kind of mimics’ me and Caroline story a lot. We didn’t meet in high school. We obviously met in college. And then we kind of took a little break and then got back together after a five-year break,” Bryan explained. He added, “I think a lot of people out there, they have a high school sweetheart then they got to go off to college and kind of sow their wild oats a little bit. But that first love really comes back into the picture.”
“Closing Time in California”
Ford admitted to Bryan that “Closing Time in California” is her favorite song on the album especially with Bryan hitting the high notes. “Yeah. Well, I’ve always had a little bit of falsetto that I could throw in there from time to time, but I’ve never really featured it.” Bryan shared. He then explained the story behind the song, saying “I love the story. I love the kind of boy back East and the girl chasing her dreams out in California and how tough it is to try to keep that together.”
“Kansas”
Born and raised in Georgia, Bryan explained why the 6th track in his latest album is about Kansas. “Well, Kansas, I mean, any time you can reference several states. We got Georgia in there and we got Colorado, California.” He added, “It’s like a country boy way of saying I love you. Using a large Kansas wheat field in size. It’s like I love you this much, you know, when you held your arms out. But now it’s like, I love you as much as all the wheat fields in Kansas.” Now, who wouldn’t want to be loved that much?
