Carrie Underwood and Papa Roach Team for Suicide Prevention
September is National Suicide Prevention Month, “a moment that serves as a powerful reminder that there are steps we all must take in looking out for loved ones, the people in our community, and those who have been impacted by this leading cause of death.”
National Suicide Prevention Week runs Sunday, Sept. 8, through Saturday, Sept. 14, and World Suicide Prevention Day falls on Tuesday, Sept. 10. All of the holidays serve to shed a light on this impactful issue.
Carrie Underwood, Papa Roach, ‘Leave a Light On (Talk Away the Dark’) and Suicide Prevention
Carrie Underwood and Papa Roach recently teamed up for a new recording of their single “Leave a Light On (Talk Away the Dark),” and they dedicated it to the cause of suicide awareness and prevention.
They didn’t just dedicate the song to the cause in words, either. The new track, which the two recorded in a Nashville studio, benefits partner organization the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), who gets royalties generated from both artists from the song. The song also raises awareness for the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline in the United States and Canada.
“We were humbled that Carrie was open to our mission, and hearing the power of Carrie’s voice in that recording session we were blown away,” Papa Roach frontman Jacoby Shaddix said of the collaboration. “Not only is her vocal ability unequaled, but the impact of her voice brings a new meaning to our cause and will help people all over the globe. It’s an honor to have a ‘rock star’ bring life to this track with us.”
“I’m such a huge fan of Jacoby and Papa Roach and was honored to be invited to record ‘Leave a Light On’ with them,” Underwood added. “It’s a beautiful song and the message behind it and the band’s mission to shine a light on suicide prevention and mental health awareness has never been more important.”
“We are also incredibly grateful to Papa Roach and Carrie Underwood for their commitment to providing those struggling with their mental health information and resources that can help,” added American Foundation for Suicide Prevention CEO Bob Gebbia.
