The award recognizes an artist or industry veteran “who demonstrates an exceptional dedication to the community and their fellow artists,” according to CMT.com.
“Trisha has a unique ability to rally a community, whether that may be families in need with Habitat for Humanity or uplifting her fellow artists and entertainers trying to carve a path in the industry,” CMT Music Awards executive producers said in a statement. “She embodies the bold strength of June, who tirelessly devoted herself to service and community, and the namesake for this award. Both multi-hyphenate trailblazers eloquently crafted a script for others to model, letting their hearts and authenticity guide their personal, professional and public lives.”
“We are thrilled to honor the incomparable Trisha Yearwood with the inaugural June Carter Cash Humanitarian Award at this year’s show,” the CMT executives said.
Over the years, Yearwood along with her husband, Garth Brooks, have always been very involved in philanthropic work. Together they have spent decades working with Habitat for Humanity, Yearwood launched Dottie’s Yard, a non-profit raising money to cover the costs for basic necessities of pets.
Most recently, Yearwood celebrated 25 years as a member of the Grand Ole Opry. The 59-year-old celebrated on stage with fellow artists and her good friends Terri Clark, Pam Tillis, and Suzy Bogguss.
Yearwood is also scheduled to perform at the Moody Center in Texas next month where she’ll debut a new song, “Put It In A Song,” on the CMT Awards stage. The track will be the first to come from her upcoming album.
