Lainey Wilson: Felt Like An ‘Imposter’ After Winning Top CMA
Lainey Wilson told Kelleigh Bannen in a new interview how she felt when she received her GRAMMY nominations. Her nods include a Best Country Album nomination for her Bell Bottom Country.
She told , “It felt like, I don’t know, like a stamp of approval or respect from people in the industry as a whole.” She noted that she didn’t move to Nashville to “just win awards.” Lainey said she moved to town because this is what “I love to do,” adding that the GRAMMY nods are “like a cool thing that comes along with it.”
Wilson continued of the honor, “To think about a girl that grew up in a town of less than 200 people getting nominated for a GRAMMY … I hope that people who feel like, ‘Oh, there’s no chance in hell I would ever be able to do that.’ I hope that they can look at the story and be like, ‘Well, hey, you never know.'”
In the same interview, Lainey said she felt like an imposter at times after winning the CMA Award for Entertainer of the Year win last month. She admitted, “I’d be lying to you if I told you that at times those imposter feelings didn’t creep up on me because I think that’s just a human thing to do.” She said that everyone who was nominated for the award deserved it, saying, “It’s about reminding yourself that everybody’s journey is different.”

Wilson was one of the many country artists and famous people who attended an album release party near Nashville a few weeks ago to celebrate the release of Dolly Parton’s Rockstar album.
Lainey listened closely as the country icon spoke to the small crowd gathered to hear the 30-song album. She said that she had heard Parton say at the release party that “It’s almost like when one dream happens, it leads to another dream.” Wilson said that’s what she sees now in her life and career, including acting. She said she didn’t dream about being an actor as a child, saying, “Things that I didn’t dream about as a child, it’s like this dream has led to other dreams.”
