Dickerson is this week’s guest host on Shawn Parr’s Backstage Country and Parr put him in the hot seat to put a buddy of his on the new artist launchpad.
“Russell Dickerson. You’ve been in this position before. You’ve been here before. So you know what we’re doing here. We’re looking for that next big country star. And it’s somebody who you might be looking at, somebody who you really like, who’s an up-and-comer. Who’s it going to be,” Parr asked.
“Oh, Conner Smith. He’s got a song with Parker Welling, who I’ve written most of my hits with. And Chase McGill, who wrote ‘God Give Me a Girl With Me.’ Yeah, just like I’m a fan of him as well,” Dickerson told Parr.
Dickerson continued, “You know, hearing stories about him, how great of a writer is, how great of an artist he is. And yeah, I’m a I’m a I’m a supporter.”
He also revealed to Parr that they had spent some time together originally at a CRS Believers Breakfast in Music City. Smith was also previously featured on Shawn Parr’s Backstage Country with his song “I Hate Alabama.”
Smith is currently preparing for the release of his debut album, Smoky Mountains, due out January 26. It will feature his top-20-and-rising single at country radio, “Creek Will Rise,” which you can listen to below.
