Ashley McBryde Knows ‘How Big What You Do Can Be’
Ashley McBryde has been making considerable strides in her career in 2023 as she won her first Grammy for her duet with Carly Pearce, “Never Wanted To be That Girl.” Ashley also performed with Wynonna Judd at the 2023 CMT Music Awards. Additionally, she scored a handful of nominations for the upcoming 2023 ACM Awards, including Female Artist of the Year.
Sometimes what fans tell her about her songs affecting them blows her mind. She told us, “There have been some really amazing things said to me. For instance, at one point, a woman was separated from her children. I don’t know the entire story, but she said, ‘I got my children back, and your album got me through that entire time.’ That’s not something you could ever anticipate, ‘I went through a breakup, and your song helped me.’ You can’t anticipate something like that.”
She continued, “There was a gentleman that I found out about that was in the hospital that had been in a bad accident, and the nurses would play my record while he was in recovery. That would kind of keep his brain stimulated and keep him going. There’s no way to anticipate that, and that reminds you of how tiny you are and how big what you do can be.”
Ashley recently released a new song from her upcoming album, which is still to be announced. The new song is called “The Devil I Know.”
She said about the new tune, “We’re always hearing something from somebody who thinks they know what’s best for us. Lose weight; your hair’s too curly, change this, change that. Things just seem to go better when you trust your own lens to see what’s good for you.”
Written by McBryde with Jeremy Stover and Bobby Pinson, “The Devil I Know” includes the lyrics, “Momma says get my ass my to church / Daddy says get my ass to work / Doctor says I gotta give up on these smokes / Everybody’s got something to say / About how I gotta change my ways / Well, I got something to say of my own / Hell, there’s hell everywhere I go / So I’m sticking with the devil I know.”
