Luke Combs To His Grandfathers: ‘I Miss You Both Like Crazy’
Luke Combs has been posting a lot to Instagram about the songs on his upcoming Growin’ Old album. The album will be out on March 24. Most recently, he posted about both of his grandfathers and how they never got to see his musical success.
In a rare lengthy post, Luke wrote on Instagram, along with a photo of him as a kid with both grandpas. He wrote, “These are my grandpas. The one on the left of the photo was my dad’s dad, Pap Pap. When I started doing music, he told me, ‘If you stick with this, you’re gonna make it. I thought he had lost his mind, but he said it with such conviction that I almost believed him, and that moment stuck with me forever. He passed away in 2016, but thankfully my 1st album, ‘This One’s for You,’ was already finished by then, and I played it for him the last time I got to see him. Unfortunately, that’s as far as he saw my music career go.”
He continued, “The one on the right is my Mom’s dad, Grandpa Jim. We spent so many Sundays together watching races, cooking breakfast, telling dirty jokes, and driving Grandma crazy. He passed away in 2011 and never got to see me pick up a guitar or sing a song, but I know he’d be my biggest fan if he was still with us, especially when I got to play at the Daytona 500 two years in a row. The reason I tell y’all all this is because they were the inspiration for my song “See Me Now,” – where I kind of get to tell these stories a little bit and tell them some things they never got to see happen. I miss you both like crazy, and I like to think you’d both be proud of the man I’ve become.”

Combs recently told us of his baby boy Tex, “Tex is doing great; he’s eight months old, so he’s just really getting his personality kinda shining through, and he’s having a good time and smiling and laughing and getting ready to crawl. We don’t have any help at home (with the baby), so it’s just me and her (his wife Nicole) raising the little man. So shout out to her for really bearing the brunt of that. It’s just been amazing, you know, being parents; it’s just so great.”
