Movie Tickets Will Be $3 This Weekend; Happy National Cinema Day!

Movie theaters across the country will be offering movie tickets for just three dollars this weekend. It’s  part of a newly launched “National Cinema Day” promotion, aimed at attracting moviegoers during a quiet holiday weekend at the box office.

The Cinema Foundation, a non-profit arm of the National Association of Theater Owners, announced that September 3, 2022, will be a nationwide discount day in more than 3,000 theaters and on more than 30,000 screens. Major chains, including AMC and Regal Cinemas, are participating. All major film studios are participating as well. In participating theaters, tickets will be no more than $3 for every showing, in every format.

“After this summer’s record-breaking return to cinemas, we wanted to do something to celebrate moviegoing,” said Cinema Foundation president Jackie Brenneman. “We’re doing it by offering a ‘thank you’ to the moviegoers that made this summer happen, and by offering an extra enticement for those who haven’t made it back yet.”

For more details go to National Cinema Day, and look for more announcements on Twitter at #NationalCinemaDay and your local movie theater’s website.

Why is it taking place this weekend? Because Labor Day weekend is traditionally one of the slowest weekends in theaters, according to the Associated Press. To help boost movie theater tickets sales, before each showing, ticket buyers will be shown a sizzle reel of upcoming films. Participating studios include A24, Amazon Studios, Disney, Focus Features, Lionsgate, Neon, Paramount, Sony Pictures Classics, Sony, United Artists, Universal, and Warner Bros. We can assume that there will also be the usual amount of trailers. But if that sounds annoying, keep in mind the price of movie ticket. In most theaters in the country, movie tickets are more than $10 per person.

Some big-name movies in the theaters right now are Bullet Train, starring Brad Pitt, Super Pets, starring Dwayne Johnson, Top Gun: Maverick starring Tom Cruise. Others include Minions: The Rise Of Gru starring  Steve Carell and Russell Brand, and Thor: Love and Thunder, starring Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson and Natalie Portman.
